Plugin Changelog

What changed in the Engine plugin for Roblox Studio and in the shell it installs, newest first.

The Engine plugin installs Engine in your place and manages it from Studio. This page lists what changed in the plugin and in the shell it puts in ServerScriptService, by the date each update was published. Changes to Engine itself are in the Engine Changelog.

A new shell reaches your place only when the plugin puts one in: when you install Engine, update a manual install or switch between automatic and manual updates. The EngineShellVersion attribute on the Engine module shows which shell you have.

  • Added

The EngineShellVersion attribute on every install: the version of the shell the plugin put in, such as 1.0.0. See Install attributes.

  • Changed

The plugin recognises an Engine install only by its marks: the EngineInstall tag or the EngineMode attribute. The module's name no longer counts, so a module of your own called Engine is not taken for an install. See How the plugin finds an install.

  • Changed

Installing Engine, updating it and switching between automatic and manual updates show the busy cursor while the engine loads, and the normal cursor again when it is done.

  • Removed

Automatic installs no longer get the EngineVersion and EngineAssetUpdated attributes. An automatic install always runs the newest engine, so these values went out of date. The plugin window shows the version on the Creator Store instead.

Published together with Engine 1.1.0.

1 October 2026

The first release of the Engine plugin, together with Engine 1.0.0.

  • The Engine - Installation window: install Engine with automatic or manual updates, update a manual install when a newer version is published, switch between update models with your configuration kept, and uninstall.
  • Every change the plugin makes can be undone with Ctrl+Z.
  • Shell 1.0.0. The automatic shell loads the published engine when a server starts, with three loading methods, retries and a detailed failure report. The manual shell boots the copy stored in your place.
