Engine License

The agreement between you and Arthonier about the use of Engine, the Engine Studio plugin, the documentation and the Engine logo.

Last updated: 28 September 2026

This License is an agreement between you and Arthonier about the use of Engine. By installing Engine, using it, or keeping it in a Roblox experience, you accept this License. If you do not accept it, do not use Engine.

The short version

This summary helps you understand the License. The full terms below are what count.

You may

  • use Engine in your own Roblox experiences, including commercial ones;
  • change its settings and code for use inside your own experiences;
  • earn money with those experiences through Roblox's own monetization features, and keep all of it.

You may not

  • upload or publish Engine anywhere, including the Creator Store;
  • sell, give away, trade or share Engine or its source code;
  • claim Engine as your own work;
  • use the Engine logo unless your experience actually uses Engine.

1. Definitions

"Arthonier", "we" and "us" mean Arthonier, the company that owns and publishes Engine (arthonier.com).

"You" means the person using Engine. If you use Engine for a group, studio or company, you also accept this License on its behalf, and it is bound by it too.

"Engine" means all software and material that Arthonier publishes under the name Engine, in every version: the engine module (MainModule) and everything in it, the shell and loader scripts, the Engine Studio plugin, the documentation and the Engine logo. Every copy, part or changed version of it is also Engine.

"Your Experience" means a Roblox experience that you own or manage, or that you build for a client under section 4.

2. What you may do

Arthonier gives you a free of charge, worldwide, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to:

  • a) install and use Engine, including the Engine Studio plugin, in Roblox Studio and in Your Experiences on Roblox;
  • b) change Engine's settings (Configuration) and its code, only for use inside Your Experiences;
  • c) publish and run Your Experiences with Engine in them, including for commercial purposes;
  • d) let the people who work on Your Experience (for example Team Create collaborators or members of your group) use Engine, but only for that experience.

This license ends automatically if you break this License (see section 9).

3. Making money

You may earn money with Your Experiences that use Engine, but only through the monetization features that Roblox itself offers for experiences, such as:

  • Passes and Developer Products
  • Subscriptions
  • Rewarded video ads and immersive ads
  • Paid access and private servers
  • Selling avatar items and bundles inside your experience
  • Commerce products
  • Engagement-based payouts

This includes every other monetization feature that Roblox offers for experiences, now or in the future. You may cash out the Robux you earn through Roblox's Developer Exchange (DevEx). Arthonier takes no share of your income and charges you nothing for using Engine.

You may not earn money from Engine in any other way. Section 5 explains what that means.

4. Building for someone else

You may use Engine to build an experience for a client (a commission) if:

  • a) Engine is only used inside that client's experience;
  • b) you charge only for your own work, never for Engine itself; and
  • c) you tell the client that Engine is covered by this License, and the client accepts it.

The client is then bound by this License as well.

5. What you may not do

Unless Arthonier has given you permission in writing, you may not:

  • a) upload, publish or republish Engine, or any part or changed version of it, to the Roblox Creator Store (Toolbox), the Marketplace or anywhere else, as a model, plugin, package or part of another asset. Only Arthonier publishes Engine;
  • b) sell, resell, rent, license, sublicense, trade or give away Engine, or any part or changed version of it, for Robux, money or anything else. This includes putting it in a kit, template, game copy or bundle;
  • c) share or distribute Engine, any part of it or its source code outside Your Experiences, for example on websites, Discord servers, GitHub, file-sharing services, or in uncopylocked places, place files or model files;
  • d) publish or leak Engine's source code. Being able to see parts of Engine inside Roblox (for example because it loads from the Creator Store) does not give you the right to copy or share it;
  • e) charge anyone for access to Engine, for example through paid Discord roles, Patreon, memberships or any other paywall;
  • f) use Engine, any part of it or its code to build or improve a product for other developers that competes with Engine, such as another framework, engine, library or plugin;
  • g) remove, hide or change the copyright notice, this License or the LICENSE module in any copy of Engine;
  • h) present Engine or any part of it as your own work, or suggest that Arthonier made, supports or works with you or Your Experience;
  • i) use Engine outside Roblox, or in a way that breaks Roblox's Terms of Use or Community Standards;
  • j) use the Engine logo in any way that section 7 does not allow.

Engine is licensed to you, not sold. Arthonier owns Engine and all copyright and other intellectual property rights in it, including every update, copy and part of it. All rights that this License does not clearly give you stay with Arthonier.

A changed version of Engine is still Engine: this License applies to it in full, and you may not share or sell it.

Your own work stays yours. Arthonier does not claim ownership of Your Experience, your own code, your assets or your Configuration files.

7. The Engine logo and the Arthonier name

The Engine logo, the Arthonier name and the Arthonier logo belong to Arthonier.

You may use the Engine logo only to show that Your Experience uses Engine, for example as "Powered by Engine" or "Made with Engine", and only:

  • a) while Your Experience actually uses Engine;
  • b) in its original form. You may resize it, but you may not change, recolour or distort it;
  • c) in a way that does not suggest that Arthonier sponsors, supports or partners with you;
  • d) never as your own logo or brand, or as part of it; and
  • e) never on merchandise or anything else you sell.

When Your Experience stops using Engine, remove the Engine logo from it. You may not use the Arthonier name or logo without written permission.

8. Updates and changes

Engine can update itself: when Arthonier publishes a new version, experiences that load the published Engine receive it automatically. Arthonier may change, update, pause or stop Engine or any part of it at any time, without notice. Arthonier is not required to provide support, fixes or updates.

Arthonier may update this License. The current version is always the one at engine.arthonier.com/license, and it applies from the day it is published there. If a copy of this License inside a script is different, the version on the website applies. By continuing to use Engine after an update, you accept the updated License.

9. End of this license

Your license lasts as long as you follow this License. If you break any part of it, your license ends immediately and automatically, without notice. You must then stop using Engine and remove it from all your experiences, places and files.

Arthonier acts against anyone who publishes, shares or sells Engine without permission. Arthonier will file DMCA takedown notices, or similar notices, with Roblox and any other platform involved, and may take further legal action, including claiming damages.

Sections 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 continue to apply after your license ends.

10. No warranty

Engine is provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty that it is fit for a particular purpose. Arthonier does not promise that Engine is free of bugs, always available, or compatible with every Roblox update. You use Engine at your own risk and are responsible for testing it in Your Experiences.

11. Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, Arthonier is not liable for any loss or damage caused by using Engine or by not being able to use it. This includes lost Robux, income or profit, lost or damaged player data, failed or duplicated purchases, moderation actions or bans by Roblox, downtime, and any indirect or consequential damage. Nothing in this License limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

You are responsible for Your Experience, including how it handles player data and purchases, and for following Roblox's Terms of Use, Roblox's Community Standards and the law.

12. Roblox

Engine is an independent product. Arthonier is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Roblox Corporation. Roblox is a trademark of Roblox Corporation. This License applies in addition to Roblox's Terms of Use. If Roblox's terms give you a right that this License cannot take away, that right applies only as far as Roblox's terms require.

13. General

  • a) You may not transfer this License or your rights under it to anyone else.
  • b) If any part of this License is found invalid, the rest stays in force, and the invalid part is applied as closely as the law allows.
  • c) If Arthonier does not enforce a part of this License straight away, it can still enforce it later.
  • d) This License is the complete agreement between you and Arthonier about Engine, unless Arthonier gives you written permission for something more.
  • e) This License is governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands, unless the law gives you the right to go to court elsewhere.

14. Contact

Questions, or want to do something this License does not allow? Contact Arthonier through arthonier.com/contact. Permission only counts when Arthonier gives it in writing.
