Install Engine
Engine is installed with the Engine plugin for Roblox Studio. Get the plugin from Roblox, open it in Studio and Engine is in your game a few clicks later.
Good to know
- Free to use, also in games that make money.
- Nothing is downloaded from this website. Engine is installed inside Studio.
- Automatic updates keep every new server on the newest version.
- Your settings are kept when you update or switch update models.
Step by step
- 1
Get the plugin
Open the Engine plugin on Roblox and install it to Roblox Studio. It is free, and it is the only official way to get Engine.
- 2
Open your place in Studio
Open the place you want to use Engine in. Make sure you are editing, not playtesting: the plugin can only change your place while you edit.
- 3
Open the Engine window
Go to the Plugins tab and click Engine. The Engine - Installation window opens. You can dock it anywhere like any other Studio window.
- 4
Choose how Engine updates
Automatic UpdatesRecommended
Click Enable. Every server loads the newest Engine from Roblox when it starts, and your place only stores a small shell.
Manual Updates
Click Install Latest. The newest Engine is stored inside your place and stays on that version until you update it from the plugin.
Automatic updates may need Game Settings > Security > Allow Loading Third Party Assets. You can switch models at any time. How updates work
- 5
Confirm and publish
Confirm in the window. The plugin adds the
Enginemodule to ServerScriptService (you can undo it with Ctrl+Z). Save or publish your place.ServerScriptService └── Engine ModuleScript: require this on the server ├── Loader Script: starts Engine when the server starts ├── Configuration Folder: your settings └── MainModule The engine itself (manual updates only) - 6
Use Engine in your scripts
Require Engine from a server Script and get what you need by name. Press Play to check that it runs.
Server Scriptlocal Engine = require(game:GetService("ServerScriptService"):WaitForChild("Engine")) local TimeService = Engine:GetService("TimeService") print("Engine is running, today is", TimeService:FormatIRLDate("%Y-%m-%d"))On the client, require the copy Engine creates in ReplicatedStorage when the server starts:
LocalScriptlocal Engine = require(game:GetService("ReplicatedStorage"):WaitForChild("Engine"))
The plugin window
The window shows the install options when Engine is not installed yet, and the installed version with its actions once it is. For automatic installs that is the newest version on the Creator Store, the one new servers run. It checks for a newer version each time you open it.

Questions
- Can I download Engine from this website?
- No. This website never offers Engine or any other file for download. The plugin installs Engine inside Roblox Studio, and automatic updates come straight from Roblox. If you see Engine offered for download somewhere else, it is not from Arthonier.
- Does Engine cost anything?
- No. Arthonier charges nothing for using Engine and takes no share of what your experience earns. The Engine License explains what you may and may not do.
- Can I use Engine in a game that makes money?
- Yes, through Roblox's own monetization features such as passes, developer products, subscriptions and paid access. See section 3 of the Engine License.
- Does Engine send data to Arthonier?
- No. Engine has no telemetry. Everything it stores lives in your experience's own DataStores. See the Privacy page.
- Which update model should I pick?
- Automatic updates for most games: every new server runs the newest version and your place stays small. Pick manual updates when you want to test each version first, or when your game cannot load third-party assets.
